Product Reviews can provide valuable information…..
Finding great and helpful products for your website and online business is not that different from any other shopping you do. If you have been around the block a few times like I have, you already know that you want to know about the product you are thinking about purchasing.
My favorite method of doing that research is to try and find others who have used the product and find out what they have to say about it. On some of the big websites, they make that pretty easy, we all know the meaning of five stars. For physical products, we might turn to a trusted service like “Consumer Reports”. We all want to get objective opinions, not just someones friend or relative who is giving the review.
“Angie’s List” is an example of the satisfaction level of local service providers, and it is based on the customer reviews. “The Squeaky Wheel” ia an online example of public customer complaints. Another way that may provide some insight is simply by searching Google for a company name/complaints.
We have “gut feelings” for a reason
We all see and hear offers everyday that sound too good to be true. My rule of thumb is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you are considering buying something and you have an “uneasy feeling”, trust your gut, it is a good indicator of when you are in danger of getting ripped off. Years ago before we signed a two year contract for a building for our coffee shop and catering company I had that feeling I am talking about. I rationalized that it was just fear of expanding my business. Well, my gut didn’t lie, the storefront turned out to be a total disaster, and it was a hugely expensive mistake that took me four years of hard work to recover from.
I truly believe that your gut feeling is often a truth indicator that you should not ignore. Back to the issue of finding great products. When I find great stuff, I love to tell others about it. How about you. If you are a boomer, you have had lots of products you love, after all, we have had a while to test some things out. Today technology changes at lightning speed, so we will all have to pitch in to keep each other up to snuff.
Like it or not, social media is here to stay.
Okay, I will start. Do any of you use Social media? Come on, we as boomers can’t be left behind – we have to get with the program! I know, it is hard to keep up. My first impression was that Twitter was ridiculous and was filled with info about what somebody had for lunch. Facebook was a little easier concept to grasp, but still not really my bag. Then I heard about Digsby. It only works on PC’s, so when I work on my Mac I am out of luck with this one.
That said, when I work on my PC , I use it a lot and like it. Basically it is connected to my Facebook and Twitter accounts. When someone leaves a comment on FB, a little box comes up at the bottom of the screen and you can quickly respond. It makes you look like you are on top of Social Media! the best part is that it is Free! I love it and recommend that you check it out. Lets be friends on FB and tell me what you think! How about you, please share information about something you have found and like.
